** Another Season at CWC will commence soon

It is hard to believe but the fall season has begun and with it brings the start to another year of curling at CWC.  On behalf of the Board of Directors, we hope you have all had a great summer and are now looking forward to getting another curling season underway.

Of course, curling here in Fredericton got off to an early start with the Everest Curling Challenge in late August and our hope is that many of you had the opportunity to enjoy the action at Willie O'Ree Place with many of the top curlers in the world playing for $200,000.00.  Hats off to Wayne Tallon, the organizing committee and the over 100 volunteers that made the event possible...you all did an amazing job.

Work at the Club has already begun under the watchful eye of our returning Ice Technician Joe Mason and Ice Chair Frank Armstrong.  A new Brine Pump has been installed and a new Brine Expansion Tank will be replaced in the spring to replace some very aged equipment and lighting in the Ice Shed has been replaced.  Masonry repairs have been completed to the exterior of the Ice Shed.   Commencing this week is the task of starting up the plant and putting in the Ice. Volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated and if you have some time available, please contact Frank via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. Hopefully this will answer any questions or concerns for the coming season. If you have any other questions feel free to contact the club.

An Exciting Year ahead at CWC

The season will get underway in the usual fashion with our Opening Clinics taking place on October 10th, 11th & 12th from 7:00 - 9:00pm. Shawn Stubbert will once again be overseeing the clinics but on ice assistance is needed.  If you have some time available to help Shawn out, please contact Tony Gibson via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).  The weekend of October 13th - 15th will feature our first competitive event of the season with the CWC Cashspiel organized by Mike Flannery.  The Opening Funspiel will take place on October 17th, 18th and 19th from 7:00 - 9:00pm and then League Play will begin the week of October 23rd. Most leagues will remain the same as last year with a couple of minor changes to Tuesday Men's Night and Traveller's.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    * Tuesday Mens Play has been changed to a draw play and thus requires individual sign up (not team) and the draw master for that evening will be responsible for forming the teams according to experience.  This is necessary to accommodate many of of our new curlers who wish to be involved in men’s play.

    * As for Traveller's Play, it has been determined that Travellers teams will compete in a tournament on a weekend prior to the declaration due date to determine the club champion to represent CWC at the NB Provincial Travellers Championship.

** For the Ladies, November 3rd & 4th will feature a brand new event called Curling with Comforts Ladies Funspiel.  Toni O'Brien has taken on the task of organizing this event which promises to be a fun weekend of curling and other exciting times.  If you are interested in taking part, contact Toni via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Specifically for new members, a Learn to Curl Program is being offered on Tuesday evenings from 5:15 – 7:15.  This program will be administered by Steve Christie and will offer new curlers the opportunity to play (4) end games, meet other new curlers, receive some instruction and have fun at CWC.   The program will commence on October 25th and will run for 5 consecutive Tuesday nights.  Curlers will be encouraged to participate in at least 4 of the nights.  Volunteers are urgently required to assist with this program and if you are interested at all, please contact Steve by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

Under the co-ordination of Jaime Watson, the future of CWC looks much brighter as our Little Rocks Program is experiencing a tremendous growth which is a direct result of her and her committee’s hard work. This growth may have an impact on Sunday morning practice times at CWC.  More to follow in the October newsletter.  For information on the Little Rocks Program, contact Jaime by email (This email address is being protected from spambots. Closing Thoughts:

    - The Fall Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, October 16th commencing at 7:00pm at the Club.  Join your Board of Directors as we discuss the upcoming curling season and answer your questions about the Club.

    - The CWC website (www.capitalwinterclub.ca) is being updated on a regular basis with all of the Club news.  Members are encouraged to be a regular visitor to the site.  Your login information to the Members Only section of the website will remain the same as last year.  If you have misplaced that information, please contact David McCafferty via email (This email address is being protected from spambots. I look forward to continue providing these monthly newsletters to the members at CWC.  If you prefer this method of communication where we try our best to summarize the activities at the Club, it would be great to know through your feedback.  Any suggestions or recommendations to make it even better would be greatly appreciated.  It is all about what is best for YOU, the members of the Capital Winter Curling Club.
