Volunteering for World Mixed Doubles and Senior Curling Championships
Become part of the team that will host the World Mixed Doubles and Seniors Curling Championships in Fredericton! Volunteers are needed for a variety of committees.
Note that there are limited volunteer spots available per committee. Once those spots are booked, you are welcome to volunteer to be a Floater, but you are invited to help with a committee that has spots that need your assistance to be filled first.
- -Ice (8 spots): Assisting the head ice technician in preparing and caring for the ice at the arena.
- -Welcome Desk (18 spots): Welcoming guests to Fredericton and the event and selling tickets at the venue.
- -Entertainment (5 spots): There will be some enterainment arranged for participants and spectators, and some volunteers are needed to support that.
- -Transportation (20 spots): Drivers are needed to escort athletes, coaches, and umpires to and from the Willie O'Ree Place and the arranged hotel.
- -Security (40 spots): Monitoring of access to the Willie O'Ree Place to ensure security and safety will be completed by volunteers.
- -Scoring/Stats/Timing (40 spots): Volunteers will closely track the thinking time of the teams during the game to support the umpires in rule enforcement. Additionally, statistics of the shots being made will be tracked.
- -School Program (20 spots): Volunteers will assist teachers and other group leaders in getting to their seats, getting acquainted with the venue, and engaging the children in the game of curling!
- -Future Stars (4 spots): Volunteers will work with the Future Stars to coach them on their roles in escorting the teams out onto the ice before the games and during the opening ceremony.
- -Merchandise (5 spots): Merchandise for the event will be sold by volunteers to attendees at the event.
- -Social Media/Communications (4 spots): Supporting the Social Media Director, Volunteers will take photos and help write and promote social media posts and press releases.
- -Floaters: Happy to support where needed!
Meals will be provided for volunteers and a volunteer package including a jacket will be provided. Note that Volunteers are expected to be available for a minimum of 3 shifts/games each.
Volunteers will be given free general admission to the whole event. A $50 fee is required by World Curling to partially cover the costs of the volunteer clothing. The fee can be paid by e-transfer to [email protected] (use password "Capital" for the e-transfer and your name in the comment section for the transfer), or by coming to the CWC to pay at the bar and then bring your receipt to Jaime Watson/Mitchell Small to record.
Volunteers must be 16 or older (and must possess a Class V license to be a driver). For volunteers under the age of 19, parent/guardian contact information must be provided in the Comment section of the form.
